Discount stacking allows clients to use two or more coupons on a single order. When you use a Marketing Automation with a discount, you have the option to enable or disable discount stacking.
-
Stackable Discounts:
When a discount is stackable, it can be combined with other coupons in the same order. For instance, if a client has a standard coupon and applies an additional stackable coupon, both discounts will be applied together. -
Using Multiple Discounts:
Discount stacking is particularly useful when you want to offer multiple types of discounts simultaneously. For example, if you’re offering a $ OFF discount for a specific product and a storewide % OFF discount, enabling discount stacking allows both discounts to apply to a single order. -
How Discounts Combine:
- If more than one % OFF discount is applied, the discounts stack on top of each other. For example, applying a 10% OFF discount with a 25% OFF discount results in a total of 35% OFF.
- If a $ OFF discount is applied alongside a % OFF discount, the % OFF discount is applied first to the cart total before the $ OFF discount is calculated (unless one of the discounts is product-specific, in which case the discount only applies to the eligible product).
- If more than one % OFF discount is applied, the discounts stack on top of each other. For example, applying a 10% OFF discount with a 25% OFF discount results in a total of 35% OFF.
-
When to Disable Discount Stacking:
Disabling discount stacking can be helpful for automations where you cannot control when discounts are sent. For instance, if you have the Abandoned Cart app assigned to a gallery, it may automatically send users a discount while another promotion is active. If you don’t want both discounts to apply to the same order, you can disable discount stacking.
Important Notes
- Single Discount Rule: If discount stacking is disabled and a user has multiple discount codes, only one coupon can be applied. By default, the system will apply the code that offers the highest discount.
- Exception - Rolling Publish App: The Rolling Publish app automatically applies discounts to the entire price list without requiring a discount code. This is the only situation where two non-stackable discounts can be combined.

Client Experience When Stacking Is Disabled
- If a client attempts to apply multiple discount codes when stacking is disabled, they will see the message:
“No multiple discounts allowed, the highest discount was given.” - The system will automatically apply the highest discount to the order. Any unused discounts will remain valid for future orders until they expire.
