I’m excited to publicly announce something that we’ve been doing behind the scenes for the last several months: migrating Pass Classic galleries to Pass+. Gone are the days that our longest-tenured photographers will have to switch between accounts to find their galleries.
Depending on your subscription type, you may need to take action in order to complete the migration. Please read on for important information regarding eligibility requirements, timeline, and next steps.
A New Face for Pass
In 2022, Pass entered a new era. With the transition in ownership came a refreshed vision and a new energy for investing in our photographers’ success.
We are dedicated to becoming your Print Store Business Partner, re-building a community of supportive photographers, and creating done-for-you resources that will help you level-up your photography business.
We’re also excited to release some highly-requested features over the next few months. These include: a brand new mobile app, AI-driven enhancements to the gallery experience, a simplified blog creation flow, and much more.
Finally, we’re proud to honor a promise made to Pass photographers since 2017: automated gallery migration from Pass Classic to Pass+. By June 2024, we will have fully completed the migration and will fully sunset the Pass Classic platform.
Why We Are Sunsetting Pass Classic
As you may know, Pass Classic has been in a fragile state for some time. Its underlying technology (Adobe Air) has not been supported by its creator for several years. As a result, Pass Classic has not been updated since long before we took over the business–and we are unable to support users on that platform. Most importantly, if something were to go wrong with the technology, we might not be able to recover a photographer’s precious photos.
That’s not an experience we feel comfortable with.
So, quickly after the ownership transition, we began to build a migration infrastructure. The effort has been slower, more difficult, and more expensive than we expected. We migrated the first account in July 2023.
Since then, our pace has steadily increased. However, the effort has come at a significant cost. So far, we have invested over $250 per completed migration. We are now finally ready to make our migration process available to all current Pass+ subscribers.
Automatic Migration for All Current Pass+ Subscribers *
So far, we have migrated over 2,000 accounts, including all current Pass+ subscribers on the Unlimited tier.
Next, we will migrate all Pass+ subscribers with Standard and Beginner plans
(Note: automatic migrations only happen for customers whose Pass+ and Pass Classic accounts use the same email to log in).
Some Pass Classic Users Will Qualify for Automatic Migration
Once we have finished migrating current Pass+ subscribers, we will migrate select Pass Classic users. Your account will be automatically migrated if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You have accounts on Pass Classic an Pass+ with the same primary email address
- You have logged in to either platform since January 1, 2022
- You have uploaded at least 10 galleries to Pass Classic
Those who qualify for automatic migration will receive communications from us with process and next steps prior to March 1, 2024.
Those that do not meet all three criteria above must request a migration in order to have their Pass Classic galleries transferred to Pass+.
You can request a migration by completing this form prior to April 30, 2024.
You Must Request a Migration if You Do Not Qualify
We want customers to have plenty of time to complete this process, so we will be accepting new migration requests until April 30, 2024.
After April 30, we will close new migration requests and continue fulfilling previously requested migrations until they have been completed.
Pass Classic will officially shut down on June 30, 2024. After that date, the platform and any un-migrated galleries will become inaccessible.
We want to assure you that our primary focus is on making this transition as transparent and as smooth as possible. We thank you for your understanding and patience.
The decision to sunset Pass Classic is not one we made lightly, but it is an important step that will allow us to continue investing in the success of our photographers.
How to Ensure Your Pass Classic Galleries are Migrated
If you have a current Pass+ subscription, your galleries will be migrated automatically. You will get priority access by completing this form.
See below for more information on how to get your galleries migrated before the sunset date. Please note that if you do not take action, your Pass Classic galleries will become inaccessible on Jun 30, 2024.
